Hello and welcome to my portfolio! My name is Charity Shellabarger and I am a future Interior Designer, graduating from Sinclair Community College. I am a 19 year old female from a small town north of Dayton called Arcanum. Before we talk what my goals are, let's talk where I came from.

As I said above, I grew up in a small town USA with a population of about 2,000. I still live in my childhood home that my father built from the ground up. In this home I had the opportunity of living with my very best friends. My mom, father, 3 biological siblings, and 2 adoptive siblings; we are to this day still the best of friends and family. Being the youngest out of the big pack, it pushed me to be heard and make a statement which I believe is why I am a go getter today. Growing up I wanted to be a Vet Tech, being surrounded by animals and farming, thats all I ever wanted to do with my life. When I reached about grade 7, I decided I would like to be a teacher for a small public elementary school but to no surprise that changed as a freshman in high school when things started to get more real. I decided to sit down and think about what I really enjoyed doing and to my surprise it was rearranging my room or jumping on the old Dell computer and playing Home Decorating games. It then sparked my interest that I could do what I love to do for a living. So, my journey with interior design began. I started to look around the spaces and rooms that I entered, taking in the ceiling design, furniture arrangement, and finding so much beauty in the simple details. I was not done there though, things changed a bit when my heart fell in love with helping people and making those who came around me or near me smile and feel loved.

Growing up, my family would get children on medical visas from Africa who would need some sorta of medical attention. There was this one specific girl that changed my life forever. We had the honor to home here for about a year; from 2011-2012. Madissi was from Chad, Africa, a small country in central Africa. She was a light like never before, a breath of fresh air, she was what one would call an angel on earth. What really made me in awe of her kindness and selflessness was the background she came from. She was tortured, attacked, lived in mud huts, and had little to no education but she still was the most beautiful and intelligent young women I had ever met. I did not realize until my junior year in high school, 2019, the she and all the other children we homed had changed my life for the better.

With my knowledge in Interior Design, I not only want to create functional and comfortable space for those who can afford it, I also want to one day be able to use my knowledge for something that is more than myself. I want to be able to do nonprofit work for in The States and out of The States. I want to make a difference in this world with my knowledge obtained from Sinclair Community College.
